For the September Sewing Co, I had a vision in my mind of ocean blues, white wood and wicker baskets on worn antique tables. I envision a mix of coastal charm and a Nancy Meyers aesthetic. I want it to feel like a coastal cottage that has the most thoughtfully curated things to peruse and purchase. The fabric selection will be handpicked by me and I want every bolt to be a ‘wow this is so pretty’ feeling when you pick it up. I also want the non-sewer to walk in and be able to enjoy it just the same and sort through a selection of thoughtful gifting items. Ultimately, I aim to create a space that fashion lovers and sewers can meet and have a sense of community. I also want to have a reflection of this in an online store as well on the store’s website. So here’s a sneak peak of the world I am curating for the September Sewing Co:

I also finalized the brand colors today! I am sooo obsessed with what I landed on. I had two sets of colors picked out and as I was working today, the colors clicked together and I’m so in love! Here is a page of the Branding Deck that I created:

A little backstory behind the logo - the flower is an Aster which is the flower of September. An aster also symbolized love, wisdom, faith and patience— the PERFECT attributes to anyone who wants to learn how to sew and who is a sewist.

What is it about Spanish moss hanging from old oak trees, hot coastal breeze, and the taste of sweet tea? It feels nostalgic to me, but for a reason unknown since I grew up in a classic northeastern small town. Since my first trip to Charleston, South Carolina in 2016 I had a strong kindredship to the South. I felt at home.

This feeling and intuition pulled me to move to Florida in June of 2024. My family and I took a trip to Silver Springs State Park two weekends ago and this nostalgic feeling flowed back to me. The river in the park is fed by two natural freshwater springs. The water is extremely clear and always a cool 72 degrees. Over the last 100 years, lots of movies have been filmed there, especially if there is an underwater scene.

The directors are able to get extremely clear shots underwater. The vegetation and lush forest around the river is absolutely breathtaking. The first day we arrived, my family and I walked the forest trail and it led to the river. It was dusk and the low sunlight caused a prism of turquoise, rich sea green, and deep aquas. I felt like I was in a magical glen that secretly was home to water fairies. This experience triggered my creativity and I had a whole vision of a mystical gown come to me. I quickly sketched it in when we got back to the hotel room.

I sketched and designed a dress that is like an Elven princess met a beach goddess…. Also very Florence and the Machine coded….. I can’t wait to bring it to life now in my studio. The Southern Gothic aesthetic is definitely a source of inspiration that I will be continuing to pull from.

It’s honestly one of my ultimate favorite things to do in the entire world. Every night is different and every night is gorgeous. Some days the sky is purple and pink …. Others it’s a crazy orange and blue ….

I’m in love with our family tradition of Sunday night beach sunsets. These are the types of moments I want to collect over my life. They also whitewash my brain and electroshock my creativity to produce new and different things. My ideas and creativity is so important to me. It truly is a gift from God that needs to be nourished and doddled over… and what better way to than going to a white sand beach and watching the sunset?
